Bob on the Facebook group was commenting how The Baja Marimba Band seems to have gotten so little cred. This LP was a favorite of an old music trading partner of mine, Rog G Biv. who gave me a digitized copy.  This rip by Tralfaz.  I wonder what blog he did.

Notes: A fun little record that is full of bad puns, familiar rhythms and entirely animal-centric. The cover tells us of the bands leader, "Baja Sr." and a bit of his history. According to the liner notes, "Baja was first inspired to do the LP one night while watching a tattered old 8 mm rental film. The picture was a travel adventure depicting the age old battle between the sloth and his natural enemy, the squid." So you see what we're dealing with here, folks, The cover art is a blend of the band the creatures found within the grooves. Of note, Mr. Wechter can be found amongst the players of Martin Denny's exotic combo.

Mai Tai Transmissions - Holiday In Paris Edition - Coming Soon!

Hello folks, allow me to introduce myself... I'm John and I do a two hour weekly show called Mai Tai Transmissions that airs on an online radio station based in Baltimore called RadioCrown (Sunday at 2AM (EST), Tuesday at 1AM (EST) and Thursday at 6PM)!  I also backup my shows after they air by posting them on Mixcloud under my account Suburban Hi-Fi.  Mai Tai Transmissions is a show, obviously inspired by my love of tiki bars and Polynesian pop, that features a wide array of mid-century music; Exotica, Jazz, Bossa Nova, lounge, Latin, Space-Age Pop, Calypso and more!  Coming up soon is a project which I am extremely excited about; a little thing I'm calling the Holiday In Paris!  This show is going to feature a bunch of great music obviously inspired by the mid-century American ideal that Paris was the ultimate romantic travel destination.  It's gonna be like a virtual holiday for your ears!  I will announce actual air dates once I get the mix completed; I'm still waiting for a couple key components to arrive in the mail!

Comp put together for the ExoticaRing about 11 years ago.

Selections that might be considered pop nouveau lounge and classical.   My daughter Leandra did the artwork.

Part of the aesthetic of the "lounge exotica" group is to branch out and find new things to present to to fellow adventitious listeners. As described at our About page. "We like everything, that's our problem. "

ExoticaMusic.net consists of fans and collectors of weird and unusual music from the early LP era forward. The list takes its name from the title of jungle-exotica pioneer Martin Denny’s seminal album.

We still like and talk about classic Exotica .  But also consider it an umbrella term, and delight when musical genres are merged, or infected with new “exotic”  or different elements.

So if you have mixtapes, putting them on Mixcloud. This site is another place you can post and promote your passion.
